Why should I care about Page Speed?

No one wants a slow website, right? This much we know.
But why exactly is page speed so important, and why care?

Today I'm going to show you a super-quick, super-insightful way to check any websites page load speed...

You can benchmark your site against your competitors, or, you can evaluate and assess just how much attention to detail has gone into making any given website.

What is it?

Simply, the amount of time it takes to load all the elements that make up your website page.
When we build these things, there's a lot that goes in, from images and code, to the software driving the site.
And then there's the infrastructure behind it - the hosting, the technical set-up. It all plays a part.

Why is it so important?

Google have been pushing for a faster internet for years, and continue to do so. Simply put, the faster pages load, the better the user experience.
Especially now the mobile web outstrips the desktop version. People need information, and they need it fast.
So much so, that Google has made it a ranking factor, when assessing your site for its organic search results.
Faster sites tend to appear higher in the results. Fact.
And lovely Google has gone and made a tool to help us techie types speed up our websites.
It's called Page Speed Insights, and it's a very quick, very free tool to assess your mobile AND desktop versions of your, or any website.
If it's slow, they give you all the help and advice you need to ramp things up.
The faster your site, the more traffic you will get, and the effective your site will be at engaging with them... read, better conversion rates...
The thing is, this is the nitty gritty stuff, the final 5% that very often goes un-done, and un-noticed.

Page Speed

Let's check it out...

1. Google 'page speed insights' and click on the link https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/insights/
2. In the big search bar, enter your full website address. For this demo, we'll be using one of our clients websites, Fill Recruitment, https://www.fillrecruitment.com
3. You can see the results for yourselves, here, we're scoring 87/100 for the mobile version, and 98/100 for the desktop.
If your sites scores highly, you are doing well. If not, well, you have some work to do.
Incidentally, if you want to assess the quality of an agencies work... this will give you useful insight.
